Torridge and West
A huge thanks to Tavistock Guide Hall for hosting us in their beautiful building.
Thanks to Tavistock Youth Cafe, Tavistock Outdoor Education Forum, West Devon CVS, Tavy District Guides and Space for attending.
Key topics covered-
Tavistock Youth Cafe ran a summer program including trips, a collaboration with the local football club to make murals for the ground and running fun sessions for young people.
They have also run events at the BMX track and are looking for sponsorship for the insurance, VOYC will put it in the newsletter.
Working towards renewal of the skate park.
They have been working with the Family Hub team to offer more service to young people and families including more after school provision, a coding club. The Family Hub reached out to them to collaborate and offer their expertise. The Family Hubs have been working with 0-8 in recent years so there is a gap in knowledge with older young people.
Space explained the Small Grant Fund was heavily over subscribed this year, with 92% of the fund allocated in round 1. It is a clear indicator that the sector .is under a lot of pressure at present. Many applications stressed that the money was essential to remaining open as opposed to new projects.
The small amount remaining in the fund is allocated to start up grants for new clubs.
Tavistock and District Outdoor Education Forum are preparing to run the Abbotts Way Walk again, after a successful Ten Tors.
West Devon CVS have been running training sessions on Impact and making successful structures. They have regular events and training sessions to support the local VCSE.
Girlguiding Tavistock Area are looking for volunteers to help run sessions, they also have opportunities for young people to volunteer, get in contact through their social media if you want to help!
It was resolved that-
Some need for first aid training in the north of the area, we have agreed to use the North Network to facilitate a combined training as Tavistock and surrounding areas were updated last year.
Tavistock agreed to host a joint training session for local groups in Drug awareness, through Y Smart. This will be funded partly from the Network funds to reduce costs and enable more people to go.
Next meeting will be in March 2025, we will let you know the date as soon as possible and it will be online this time.
We hope to see you all there!
