Exeter and Mid Devon

We represent clubs and organisations within the Exeter and mid Devon district area, working with children and young people in a variety of settings. There are 4 meetings a year, online and face to face.

Currently we are working together to arrange a local trip for young people, volunteers and staff where we can all get together, have some fun and look at how we can support each other better.

Exeter and Mid Devon Network

Thanks to Wonford Community Centre for hosting and Ceda, On The Hill, Social Prescribers (Mid Devon Area) Wonfords trustees and  Space for attending.

We announced the budget of £800 for collaborative projects and training within the network.

Key issues discussed-

  • Wonford Community & Learning Centre youth club has been closed since 2014 but there are plans for a renewal of the whole space which includes a youth provision, along with a wellbeing hub and refurbishment of the adjacent sports centre.

  • Mid Devon’s Social prescribers are working in partnership with Crediton Youth Club to set up a young carers group and to deliver some activities and are funded through GP surgeries.

  • They are picking up young people from schools who are at risk of exclusion or school refusal for whom more intensive work is probably a long term solution but this type of support is not readily available.

  • Their service has a wide area of coverage. Currently only available to young people in Crediton and the surrounding area that are connected to

participating PCN’s

  • They would like to set up a walk and talk group also.

  • They have received good training from Anna Freud's National Autism Trainer program, currently only linked to health but recommended.

  • CEDA works across a range of services and settings with young people and families of neurodivergent people to support them. Most of their work is funded through Early Help and via direct payments.

  • Online work has helped them to reach more people across the county.

  • On the Hill have had a busy summer! They are looking at the challenges of funding their work long term.

  • Their work has often been funded by HAF funding, which changes this year.

  • They have also worked with school groups

  • They have collaborated with several schools to build alternative provision.

  • If anyone has details of larger funds that might benefit them please let VOYC know so we can pass it on!

It was decided that-

  • The group would look at booking collaborative first aid training, probably based at Crediton but available to the whole network. This should enable all interested groups to renew their first aid certificates at minimal cost. Watch the newsletter for details

The next meeting will be in March 2025, date TBC

We are looking for a venue so if you have a space, please get in touch!
